ECE is different from the rest.
And it wants to stay that way.
Since its foundation in 1965, ECE has always distinguished itself from other companies. That has something to do with our corporate culture. As a family-run company, this has always been important to us – and it still is.
This ECE culture begins with flat hierarchies and direct communication between all levels and areas. It includes teamwork, the aim being success for the whole company, rather than success for the individual departments. A quick decision-making process and less red tape also play their part.
We have established the cornerstones of ECE corporate culture in 10 central ideas for how we work and operate.
Particularly characteristic of the corporate culture is a long-term corporate strategy. Rather than maximising short-term profits, ECE always pays special attention to the sustainability and social responsibility of its operations. And that means giving something back to society. With the Werner Otto Foundation, for example, which ECE founder Prof. Dr. h.c. Werner Otto created in 1969 and which provides support and treatment for disabled children.
In 2000, the current Chairman of the Board at ECE, Alexander Otto, established the Lebendige Stadt (bustling city) foundation, which brings together scientists, the city council, city planners, politicians, businessmen, artists and anyone else who is interested in the topic of “city”, the aim being to come up with and help implement new ideas for strengthening our inner cities.
In the summer of 2006, Alexander Otto established yet another foundation: the Alexander Otto Sports Foundation, a long-term project aimed at promoting sports in Hamburg, particularly for young persons, through such projects as the construction of a new ice and sports arena in the Altona public park. This arena serves as a training location for athletes from popular sports, clubs and professional teams active in ice-based and ball-based sports.
